Oh boy, what a close one! Once again Chittering did us at the very end, after we led the whole game. That's twice this season they have pipped us in the last minute of the game.
This was probably the best games of the season however, and one either team would have deserved to win. Our defense was under severe pressure, so we needed our best players down there for the game. Blake was outstanding in his reading of the ball, often gathering on the run and clearing to the midfield after a dodge and a spin. Geordie was tough as nails, regularly beating two, three and even four opponents at one stage. (Where were the other boys!?) Dylan was sent forward for a short time, but had to go back when the tide turned and Chittering kicked a couple of early goals in the second quarter. When Matty had his stint there he also took soem telling marks on the goal line.
Matthew and Miles were terrific in the midfield, and Sammy showed how far he has come this season with two goals and some great play both forward and in the midfield. Aiden showed his ferocity for the ball again in the midfield, and also helped to lock the ball forward when playing up the ground. A nice goal was kicked from a decent distance from him as well.
This was the playoff game to see who matches up with Upper Swan Black in next week's grand final, and we fell short by the narrowest of margins. We now play Upper Swan Gold in the 3/4 playoff. They are the big improvers of the season with a couple of fantastic late recruits that can dominate for the length of the game, so will be a tough one for us.
Whatever happens next week, I am proud of the boys. Unlike the other teams we have come from 4 different teams, and include 4 Auskickers playing up
